10 ARTWORKS I LOVE AT BAZAAR ART 2014

The 6th Bazaar Art Jakarta is back again, now even bigger and bolder. Yes, with hundreds of artworks from 35 galleries, this year’s exhibition includes overseas artists from China, Japan and Korea, among others– aside from local maestros and up and coming artists. All is unique in thier own right but you know i have to pick only 10 in my wish list, based on: would they go with my vintage space/pieces? Here it goes:

Forest Spirit is a little mystical and spiritual painting by Rodel Tapaya.
Export by sculpture artist Redy Rahadian would look good in my workshop. Love it!
Photo arts by New York-based Singaporean photographer and visual artist John Clang caught my attention. The title is self explanatory: Fear of Losing Experience Remembering Strangers.
I am not being political to say that everyone is now longing for new hope , and this is shared by artist Iqi Qoror too. This is one painting you cant miss.
Boy In The Shade of Tree by Chinese rising star Dai Pingjun looks like everyone’s favourite –me including. This painting would find a home in my showroom.
Never mind the title (The Chorus of Autumn Insects), the late bloomer Feng Lumin from China captures sad and happy childhood in oil on canvas.
This painting by Gatot Indrajati reminds me of Kiki Delivery Service, the famous animated film by Hayao Miyazaki. Look at the sewing machine, the piano, the painting — they will fit well in my space.
A collage of paintings from acrylic, charcoal, pencil, ink, marker, wood frame, plastic flower, paper, resin on canvas by Wisnu Auri. I like the way he mixes different paintings and materials. Perfect for the wall in my work space.

Beautiful Heads in Darmawangsa

The good thing about having an office space in a mall is every need is only one minute away. Darmawangsa Square –where my office is based– has three art galleries, one auction house and one museum. So today –after I was released from a tiring, long meeting outside– I visited an art exhibition at Yuz Museum which was presenting the artworks of an international contemporary artist Dadang Christanto.  The painting and installation works are curated by Agung Hujatnikajennong.

Through this exhibition the artist “wishes to invite us to reflect upon…history and memory” that’s why you will see plenty of heads in the museum in the next three months– painted with wayang, dogs, buffalo and other javanese objects. Just beautiful. So beautiful that I felt fresh, inspired, almost forgot about that long meeting.

Pretty Artworks For My Pretty Friends

My Private Garden by Nani Sakri, my favourite. Great as a focal point in a big space. Just pretty. I bet all my friends would want this one too.

Iriantine Karnaya and Nani Sakri get together to present their works in an exhibition called DIALOG KERINDUAN commencing now in the Energy Building, in Sudirman Business District. One is a senior contemporary sculptor, the other one is a seasoned painter — and by the way a famous catwalk model of the 70’s, both highlighting woman as their art object.  In my ten minute visit in the exhibition, I have already spotted some artworks that I think may work in my vintage spaces, or would actually be better for the homes of my good friends Ira, Vera, Uti, Irma, Maribelle, Dwita, Geline, Rima, and Andu. My spontaneous comment on all the artworks is: pretty and beautiful. Congratulations.  Here is my pick:

Another pretty painting by Nani Sakri, Transformation. This painting can transform any room into beauty. Maybe Ira would like it for her home.

I dont know what the artist Iriantine means by “Two Days Before” but I think Andu would like it.Andu, this should be yours.

This iconic sculpture, Go Through, is reminding me of my friend Uti who goes thru ups and downs sound and happy.

Loving, Listening, Ears. Sounds like my friend Vera. Would look good in your bed room, Vera.

A Mother’s Gift 2, just the right gift for Irma, a mother of three beautiful kids.

In Harmony With Nature will sure be in harmony in any room and with anyone, especially with Dwita.

Another “Transformation” for Maribelle who transforms everything into the positive. Her huge house would be more grande with this painting.

High Patience, best describes Rima. Make sure it hangs straight Rims.

Over The Boundaries, this one could be about Geline, who crosses boundaries between Indonesia and the Philippines, work and party, day and night….
