Behind The Scenes: Color Trends 2014

This is a very late post, I know…but I thought you would want to know how three interior arrangements and decorations are planned, prepared and presented. Yes, this is the Color Trends 2014 behind the scenes video. Enjoy!

Ping Pong & Vintage At Pong Me Cafe

When was the last time you play ping pong? Exactly. Don’t worry, you are not alone. Perhaps that’s the reason why this cafe was open — ping pong is everybody’s favorite sport yet nobody plays it anymore. Pong Me cafe may look like any other cafe from the outside — no, may I correct it: with that ping pong neon signage in front it’s very obvious  — and when you get inside, it’s even more obvious that ping pong takes the center stage.  Though it actually has more to offer. The interior design that is so fun, a bit glam, done by talented Mr Stanley Marcellius. The murals that are iconic, witty and playful by Sanchia Hamidjaja. The instagram wall that is unique and “path-able”. And the Scandinavian vintage chairs and sofa that are so…Jakarta Vintage. O yes, all the lounge chairs here are by Jakarta Vintage, including the dining chairs and two chesterfields in the VIP room. So now for those who want to mix coffee, pizza and sport together — all in style , this is the place to go. And whoever says cafe is only for drink, eat and chat, he’s never been to Pong Me – Ping Pong Lounge. Photos by & taken from Pong Me Facebook fan

Tanah Teduh: 100% Local, 100% Cool

Last week I went to Tanah Teduh, in Jati Padang, Pejaten, and felt so proud to be an Indonesian. How can I not? Tanah Teduh is a complex of 20 houses built by leading Indonesian architects with a strong commitment to environment and local materials. So in two hectares of land, no tree-felling was allowed, ponds retained for water processing and catchment and, natural light and air flow optimized to reduce electricity consumption. Cool. And all Indonesian-made materials are taking a center stage here, indoor and outdoor. The interior of the show unit for example, is an exhibition of fine Indonesian furniture — all vintage from the 60’s and 70’s. This is where my vintage-obsessed mind goes ecstatic, naturally.  I totally agree with Ronald Akili, the founder of this project who says: “I hope Tanah Teduh will be a source of inspiration and a project that Indonesia could be proud of.”  Bravo architects Andra Matin, Wendy Djuhara, Anthony Liu, Yori Antar, Adi Purnomo, Ahmad Djuhara, Eko Prawoto, Ferry Ridwan, Tan Tik Lam, and Zenin Adrian who made it happen. So last week I was proud and impressed by my fellow Indonesians. I am sure you would be too.  Sources: tanahteduh.com and doinc.org

Vintage for Auction in Kemang (Part 1)

Vintage lovers, another great event is coming to you, this November 10 at Lippo Kemang Village. It is called Retro & Beyond Vintage Auction, organized by the famous Sidharta Auctioneer in collaboration with –who else– Jakarta Vintage. Yes, this is Jakarta Vintage’s first event. And yes, this is an auction. What’s for auction? Well, from Scandinavian styled furniture –as seen in the photos below– to gadgets from the 70’s such as tape recorder, transistor radio and typewriter. There will be over 90 items for auction. Some are Jakarta Vintage collection, and some belong to dear friends who believe in the goodness of vintage. So if you are a true vintage passionista, mark your calendar: Nov 7-10 for viewing, Nov 10 at 1pm for the auction, and make yourself available for the most happening event in Jakarta, be it as a bidder or just a vintage spectator. Visit sidhartaauctioneer.com for details.

Scandinavian styled sofa in fresh new fabrics and that retro blouse are for auction. So are the artworks of Ika Vantiani on the wall.

My Hunting Field 7: Ciputat

Ciputat has for a long time been most famous for furniture shops –there are hundreds of them– specializing in teak and mostly ethnic style. In the past years, however, I have seen more and more mid century furniture being displayed in many shops. One shop owner says that the demand for mod pieces started ten years ago and is getting more popular in the past five years. Anyway, now that i am more experienced and exposed to the process and finishing of furniture, I can tell the replica from the authentic ones, though some pieces are so good that i still have to ask the shop owner to make sure. Here are some photos of the mid century pieces in three shops in Ciputat which I visited yesterday. Have a good Sunday!

I like this style, I say: cool mod.

This mini credenza is so stylish you dont have to put anything on it.

Two lounge chairs, in different style, both from the 50’s and 60’s.

Another credenza, only bigger, same style. Just add TV, and you got style.

Elegant stool with sexy legs and rattan top. You can put it anywhere and mix it with anything. This brings style to any room.

Vintage At Work

Vintage works! That’s what this office has proven. These are photos of an advertising agency in Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta. Is this modern or vintage, or both? Doesn’t matter. It just looks cool. The creative department with custom made hanging lamps as the focal point. The rack is vintage. Piggy bank painted in white goes along with the hands. Piggy bank painted in white goes along with the hands. Vintage folded chair found in Ciputat with cushion by Melissa Sunjaya of MyTulisan Meeting room with vintage french crystal chandelier, and retro gordyn as the backdrop. A swedish style cupboard takes the center stage in the reception area. A retro looking Magno radio with a vintage clock that doesn’t really work, but they look nice together. A custom made chandelier in the meeting room is made of root beer bottles in Semarang. The crystal is from Mayestik. A royal like chair in purple faux leather and a vintage mirror salvaged in Semarang. The tin plate in between is a street find in Kebayoran Lama. A provence styled chair is a steal from a Ciruendeu vintage shop. The seat cover is an Ikea. There is always a room for Marlyn Monroe, even at this office. A sexy find in Kebayoran Lama.
