Jakarta Post on Jakarta Vintage: Oldie But Goodie

Hi. After over a month of hiatus from the blog and you all — it’s really good to be back. My first note is on an article by The Jakarta Post’s JPlus two weeks ago. The two-page coverage is about my house which according to the paper –I quoted here: “displays the perfect mix of good taste, creativity and vintage obsession”. Wow, such a kind write up by Willy Wilson as well as

gorgeous photos by Fransisca Angela. Check it out at thejakartapost.com andhere.

Finding Kimono & Vintage Shops in Kyoto (Part 2)

So you have seen what Rogers vintage shop in Kyoto has to offer. So where did my search of my kimono end? It was in Chicago, at Teramachi shopping arcade, just few shops away from Rogers. Here are i saw sea of used and vintage kimonos — for kids, boys, girls, married women, men, yutaka, along with the belts and other accessories. I spent like one and half hour looking for the “it “komono for my client and I hope the time worth spent. Check out the photos below. The other photos were taken in the first kimono shop that I went to. It’s called Mimoro, on the top list in the google search. The collection here is endless. I was overwhelmed as all the kimonos are “gorgeous, more than kawaii” as the PR lady put it. There is no kimono that I didnt like in the shop but unfortunately my budget was a bit tight, so I had to leave the shop with the hope that I found one with the right price.

Finding Kimono and Vintage Shops in Kyoto (Part 1)

I came to Tokyo and Kyoto with two missions. First and foremost is to have a year end holiday with my family — of course– and that I suppose should be easy as everywhere I go it’s all unique and beautiful. The second mission though is to find a vintage kimono for my decoration project. This is — as it turned out– a bit tricky. There are some shops selling used and vintage kimonos in Nippori Tokyo and the price is within reach — but the kimonos are not exactly what I was looking for, and there is one shop in Kyoto that has unbelievably gorgeous kimonos but the price is just not good for my budget. Such a dilemma. Thanks to Google and my daughter Caca, at the end I found this shop –Chicago, a funny name I think– just right in Teramachi shopping arcade, Kyoto, where used, vintage and old kimonos are abundant, within my budget. Phiew. And the other good thing with this shop is…a few shops next to it there was  another vintage shop called Rogers. The shop is specializing in vintage fashion and clothing, but hey if you keep your eyes wide open there are other stuff beyond clothing too, such as vintage tin signage, lamps, radio, and …chairs! Here are the photos of this Rogers shop. Photos of kimonos will follow in the next posting (Part 2). Hope you enjoy them.

Behind The Scenes: Vintage At Jakarta Do Art 2014

This is another behind the scenes video shot and edited by Ozi, this time it’s on Jakarta Do Art, an event held at Pondok Indah Mall early this month. I uploaded the video here now — otherwise it becomes “sooo last year”. The video highlights cool arts by talented do-art artists,  products by partners, and a workshop on “decorating with vintage” by Jakarta Vintage, which is supported by Martha Stewart Living Indonesia. So if you missed the event, you can always watch this video anytime. It’s in youtube. Happy watching, and oh Happy New Year!

Color Trends 2014 From Vintage Perspective

What color is in (and what’s out) in 2014? The answer to this question for a global leader in paint and coating such as Jotun is 24. Yes, Jotun provides 24 colors of paints in its Color Trends 2014 campaign, which are grouped into three themes: Travel in Style, Urban Casual, and New Comforting. Urban in Style projects elegance, warmth, and glamor, best represented by dark blue, green, maroon and purple. As for Urban Casual, it’s all about being creative, laid back and individual with orange, retro blue and grey in the color palette. New Comforting is best for those who want to have a relaxing, peaceful and simple space. This color scheme includes dew blue, tudor, edelwise, among others. For the launch event of Color Trends 2014 the Norway brand commissioned Jakarta Vintage to make an interpretation of the three themes above by designing and decorating three spaces in its launch event today. Here are the photos, styled and shot by our creative team, at our showroom/ studio at the Darmawangsa Square. How do you like it?

Ping Pong & Vintage At Pong Me Cafe

When was the last time you play ping pong? Exactly. Don’t worry, you are not alone. Perhaps that’s the reason why this cafe was open — ping pong is everybody’s favorite sport yet nobody plays it anymore. Pong Me cafe may look like any other cafe from the outside — no, may I correct it: with that ping pong neon signage in front it’s very obvious  — and when you get inside, it’s even more obvious that ping pong takes the center stage.  Though it actually has more to offer. The interior design that is so fun, a bit glam, done by talented Mr Stanley Marcellius. The murals that are iconic, witty and playful by Sanchia Hamidjaja. The instagram wall that is unique and “path-able”. And the Scandinavian vintage chairs and sofa that are so…Jakarta Vintage. O yes, all the lounge chairs here are by Jakarta Vintage, including the dining chairs and two chesterfields in the VIP room. So now for those who want to mix coffee, pizza and sport together — all in style , this is the place to go. And whoever says cafe is only for drink, eat and chat, he’s never been to Pong Me – Ping Pong Lounge. Photos by & taken from Pong Me Facebook fan

Beautiful Vintage Chairs at Hotel Kosenda

Vintage hunting or spotting – I normally do it on the weekend. But that Thursday night I went to Hotel Kosenda, a new boutique hotel in Jakarta to unwind, and boy how I had a vintage-tic time. This hotel is like a candy store to me. Every single thing there is vintage at its best. Just superb mid-century pieces. Especially the chairs and the sofas! They are so… I am speechless, practically kneeling down on the floor. According to the owner, Pak Ruben Kosenda, all the chairs and sofas are original, authentic pieces, obviously not the kind of chairs you would find in the flea markets or so-called antique shops. Just premium, first class chairs– and they look it! And the good news is: They are not there just for the show, they are there for the guests to actually sit on it. With awesome chairs like these, now you can go to the hotel not to sleep, you can just have a coffee, take a bite and sit. Happy Monday!
