Lost and Found Art by Ade Darmawan

Flea market and street finds are becoming art in the creative hands of artist Ade Darmawan, the founder and director of Ruang Rupa. In his solo exhibition called “Human Resource Development” at Ark Galerie (Sep 23- Oct 24), Jakarta Selatan, Ade turns objects such as second-hand chandeliers, used books and vintage desks into an art with a message. I don’t quite understand what the message is, but I do understand now that lost and found finds can make a beautiful art. So inspiring. Just look at these photos

Beautiful Heads in Darmawangsa

The good thing about having an office space in a mall is every need is only one minute away. Darmawangsa Square –where my office is based– has three art galleries, one auction house and one museum. So today –after I was released from a tiring, long meeting outside– I visited an art exhibition at Yuz Museum which was presenting the artworks of an international contemporary artist Dadang Christanto.  The painting and installation works are curated by Agung Hujatnikajennong.

Through this exhibition the artist “wishes to invite us to reflect upon…history and memory” that’s why you will see plenty of heads in the museum in the next three months– painted with wayang, dogs, buffalo and other javanese objects. Just beautiful. So beautiful that I felt fresh, inspired, almost forgot about that long meeting.

10 Pieces of Art I Would Bring Home

Last weekend I managed to visit Galeri Nasional which was exhibiting Jatim Art Now, an art exhibition by 149 artists from East Jawa. In my humble opinion as an average Indonesian, I must say that I am impressed with the artworks. I think they are world class. As my friend Handoko always says, the choice of art is a personal matter, and here is my personal choice from the exhibition based on: would they go with my vintage pieces?

O wait. Let me count it again. Not 10 but there are 13 artworks that i would love to have in my vintage home and office. See, art can make you a little disoriented and irrational sometimes. My friend Syanda who works as an art curator asked about my preference on painting and i could not really answer. Now those 13 artworks are my answer. For your information, the exhibition will last until the 5th of July, so you will have plenty of time to pick your choice of art and share them with me her. Have an artful week ahead!
