Raja Room — art deco contemporary

Hi all, better late than never– so I just want to share this one project that completed in Dec 2017. It was a small project called Raja Room, at Samsara Indonesian Cuisine, Jakarta. The task was to convert one little dining corner in the restaurant into a private room with a feel of a “gentlemen’s club” yet it should be flexible and wholesome enough to be used for (non-gentlemen) private gatherings. This space was projected to be able an independent and separate from the main restaurant.

THE CONCEPT: An artdeco inspired space with a contemporary twist and Indonesian/Javanese touch. The main inspiration came from the life and life style of Mr Nitisemito, a successful Indonesian entrepreneur from Kudus, Central Java who owned a cigarettes company back in 1930’s who was later known as Raja Kretek (King of Cloves). His fiery passion for interior design and architecture was shown in his art deco styled mansion which still exists in Kudus until now. The idea was to bring back his design spirit and present it in the project in a contemporary and relevant style. Hence we named the space Raja Room.

THE RESULT: A space that is cozy, serene, classic yet modern and eclectic. A contemporary take of the art deco style. The choice of dominating Oxford blue wood panel was meant to deliver the message. As the art deco identity is retained in the use of gold colour in the artwork, furniture and wall decoration. The style of the chair and sofa resembles the art deco style — only simplified. The gold plated metal arm chair, sofa and all wall decoration are exclusively custom made including the fine porcelain plates. An artwork of Sang Raja himself was displayed as a tribute as well as an artwork of his mansion. A fine handmade batik was hang to finish the look. what do you think?

STYLE & SUBSTANCE : BACK TO THE 20s WITH AN ART DECO EXPERIENCE

Hello!  I’m back again with something fresh and new.  feels great to be blogging again…

Lately I held an event about my latest collection which is called ‘Style & Substance’. It’s a collection with a touch of modern contemporary art deco design inspired by the life of Nitisemito from a book called ‘Sang Raja’ By Iksaka Banu. This book tells a story about Nitisemito being a successful entrepreneur from Kudus, Central Java. With a fiery passion for interior design and architecture as well as some brilliant joie de vivre frame of mind. Nitisemito’s persona was alluring and timeless… an authentic personification of what it means to have ‘Style & Substance’. This event was held on the 18th of December 2017 at ‘Samsara Indonesian Cuisine’.

Quite a lot of people showed up at the event, even more than I expected, and it made me really happy that everyone enjoyed the event. We had dinner, chit chatted, talked about the book, there was even a photo booth set up for people to take pictures in the installation and we all had so much fun. Not to mention the talented musician who made the ambience extra ordinary. It was surely a great evening…

There were a couple of merchandise that were distributed to the guests before they head home, some of which including a scarf for women and a handkerchief for men. These merchandise were specially designed for this event as a part of the collection.

Overall the event turned out to be a blast and I’d surely make more events for my upcoming collection. To top it all off, here are some pictures taken from the event…
