A Glimpse of Indonesian Design in Milan

Anyone, any designer would be extremely delighted and honored when his or her design made the cut to be exhibited in Milan – the Mecca and the capital city of fashion and design. I was one. My picnic chair, which I call “Jakarta Picnic Chair” and my fabric named “Herbs and Spice Island” were exhibited in Zona Tortona, during Milan Design Week, earlier this month.

It was actually Indonesia’s first time to be featured here in Milan Design Week! Indonesia’s debut exhibition was called IDentities: Handmade Contemporary Indonesian Design Pavilion. So you can imagine how lucky I felt, to be one of the selected Indonesian designers who got to tag along… and exhibit! Alongside myself, there were other Indonesian designers such as Sagalakayu and Kandura Studio.

Anyway though, it felt real good to have Indonesian designs recognized, I feel like it hasn’t been looked upon that much. Indonesia is home to many ethnicities, cultures, and much more, which means we have a lot to show too! Thank you Bekraf (Badan Ekonomi Kreatif Indonesia) for making this happen!
